Once upon a time, there lived two children in a village. The elder one was Daniel and the other was Sarah. They were very bored. One beautiful sunny afternoon, they were playing near their house. Sarah saw a butterfly and chased it, running into the woods. Daniel ran after her, calling out her name. Sarah was so intent on catching the butterfly that she didn’t realize that she had gone deep into the woods, with Daniel running after her. Soon, they lost the butterfly and realized that they had strayed far into the woods. And then everything changed that summer.
The siblings wandered in the woods, trying to find their way. Suddenly, they saw a large bungalow. Daniel, the braver of the two, pushed the thorns near the door with his sneakers and knocked on the door. Sarah kept wiping her hands on her bright-red frock. Daniel knocked again. The door creaked open slowly. Sarah clung to Daniel’s hands. They entered the bungalow cautiously.
As they took two steps, there was a rattling sound from above. They looked up to see a skeleton rolling down the stairs towards them. They shrieked and turned to run. But the skeleton said, “Hello kids, don’t run away. I will not harm you. I will even show you around my house.” The siblings looked at each other and decided to trust the skeleton.
The grinning skeleton rattled its way to the next room, followed by the kids. Daniel was busy brushing away cobwebs from his curly hair when there was a scream from Sarah. He turned to see Sarah trembling, her eyes looking at the ceiling. A cloud with one big eye, one small eye, upturned nose and mouth with no teeth was swirling above their heads. It was Mr. Ghost. As he came down, the skeleton said, “Hello brother, don’t harm them. They are my new friends.” “Ahem… sorry. Welcome to our house friends.” So saying, Mr. Ghost disappeared.
Heaving a sigh of relief, the siblings followed the skeleton into the next room. Quick as a flash, a creature flew at them shouting, “Mwahahaha… I am going to suck your sweet blood…” Sarah ran from the room, dragging Daniel. The skeleton shouted, “Hello sister, these are my friends.” Ms. Vampire apologized and flew away.
Soon the trio visited all the rooms, befriending strange creatures. As they came to the last room, the skeleton said, “I tricked you. I am really going to eat you.” The siblings were so scared that they jumped out of the window and ran away, screaming. As they ran away, the skeleton laughed till his thin stomach ached. His siblings, Mr. Ghost, Ms. Vampire and other creatures of the bungalow stood laughing. The skeleton said in between laughter, “I tricked them nicely. As if I would eat them… silly kids…”
